FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1) When is the best time to take Driver Education? Shouldn't I wait for a while after I get my G1 licence?

Our advice is to not delay your driver education. It's critical that you learn the correct and safe way to drive as soon as you are able to get behind the wheel of a car.  Waiting to come to Gord's until you have some "practice driving" is completely unnecessary and may cause you to develop bad driving habits that you will have to "un-learn" later on. However, we DO strongly encourage students to drive frequently and consistently with other people in order to hone their new skills - it is important for new drivers to continue to drive on a regular basis right from the first time they get behind the wheel!

We find that many students who wait until they have a dire need to drive (to get to college, for example) tend to want to rush through driver education and take the G1 exit test well before they have the skills sufficient to do so, putting their pressures on us and essentially asking us to set aside student safety and our own integrity.

It is not our policy to "hold off" on a student's lessons until closer to their test eligibility date - students are expected to begin and complete their in-car lessons within a reasonable time frame. Students who want to take their driving lessons near their G1 exit eligibility date should consider attending a later course! Students who requires a practice session prior to a test must schedule a separate appointment for which we will charge our current fee.

2) Do I need to have my G1 licence in order to come to class?

No.  It is not necessary to obtain your G1 licence before you sign up for or begin attending one of our courses.  However, we require  your licence information in order to register you online with the Ministry of Transportation Driver Education System (DES) and allow you to complete your driving lessons and graduate.  Therefore, we suggest that you do not wait to apply for your licence.  If you get  your G1 licence after you begin attending class, please be sure to hand it to your in-class or in-car instructor as soon as possible so that we may obtain a photocopy.

3) When do I have to pay for the course?  What payment methods do you accept?

Payment is expected by the first day of the course and will be taken upon arrival. For those who require a payment plan, at least 50% of the course fee is to be paid the first day. The other 50% must be paid no later than the last driving lesson OR 60 days from the course start date - whichever comes first. Any student whose account is in arrears will not be certified with the MTO and we reserve the right to cancel a road test until the account is paid in full!

NSF cheques are subject to a $5.00 fee.  Post-dated cheques are no longer accepted due to the increasing number of such cheques that are returned NSF.  For your convenience, we now accept all standard forms of payment including interac, visa and mastercard.
