FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (3)

7) I have a driver's licence but can't find it right now - can I still go ahead with my driving lesson today?

NO!  Anytime you get behind the wheel of a car, you are required by law to have your physical licence with you - whether it's a paper temporary or a plastic card!

-Your licence does not belong to you!  It belongs to the province in which you reside.

-Identity theft is the fastest growing white-collar crime in Canada . Once you lose your licence, you never know who might find it or what they will do with it!

-Your driver's licence is a key piece of your personal identification.  It is one of the most important pieces of I.D. you will ever carry; it should remain with you at all times.  It should not ever get left at home or anywhere else.

If you have misplaced your licence but have a driving lesson coming up, please call our office to let us know as soon as you can.  Unfortunately, it means we will have to suspend your driving lessons until such time as you either find your licence or obtain a temporary licence until your plastic card is re-issued.  However, driving without a licence is illegal and we will not drive with an unlicensed student.

If you have lost your licence, please go to any Service Ontario Office to report a lost licence. You will immediately be issued a temporary licence that will allow you to drive.  A new plastic licence will be mailed out to you in a few weeks.

8) I'd like to take my driving lessons closer to my test.  Can I hold off on the in-car sessions for a few months?

It is NOT our policy to put off driving lessons for students! Students are expected to start driving lessons within 8 weeks of finishing the classroom session and finish lessons within a couple of months. The reason is this: Other students who enroll down the road will need our instructors to be free for their lessons, and it is not fair to our new students to fill our instructors current schedules with students who came to the course months ago. Therefore, if you are not prepared to do your driving lessons now, we suggest waiting until you are and enroll in course then!

9) Why didn't I get a certificate to give to my insurance company? How do I get a discount?

The MTO eliminated certificates back in 2008 and now require students to buy a "certificate" directly from the Ministry of Transportation.  All student certification is now done ONLINE from our end and we receive nothing at all that you can give to your insurance company!

What we will do is email you a copy of the order form you will need to purchase your Driver's Licence History for Proof of Beginner Driver Education Course Completion. (Yes, it's a long name for such a simple document!) You can purchase it from any Service Ontario branch for the cost of $12.00 and get same-day service. When you receive that document, make a photocopy of it and KEEP your original. Your insurance company can have the photocopy to keep in your file.
